Looking for Info

I am looking for all the info i can on a 1997 F-250 LD XLT 4x4 supercab w/ 5.4L Triton. I need to know the axle size, transmission, known problems. Anything will help because i want to bring it back to when it was brand new then start modding from there. I am also worried about towing capasities if i add a Class IV hitch. I live out in flat land so i am not worried about major inclines but i would like to tow other vehicles and sometimes a trailor with my stang on it (which is a 2006 GT which is tipping the scale at 4000lbs.+) And then later i would like to add a minor to mid size lift (around 2in-6in lift). Thanks for the Info everyone.

I have the same truck and really have had no major trouble but here are a few things i encountered. Alternator at 104k, front end squeals because you can't grease the joints on it, horn is out for the 3rd time, multi-function switch is out, transmission light is starting to flash again and it shifts hard when it does but turn the truck off then on and its fine, leather seats are torn up on the driver side from climbing in and out(common on these i think) Otherwise its been good, i have a 3" rancho under it with 35" tires, dual exhaust, front and rear replacement bumpers and i used to tow a trailer full of tools no problem on flat, inclines it would scream wide open the whole time. 7 lugnuts will get ya as well

yeah i got in just in time and bought some Eagle alloy 17x8 wheels before they were discontinued but i know centerline is willing to MAKE a set for you for around 1300 for the set shipped to you. i will post pics in a bit and i have over 150K miles and no problem with the alternator, i have cloth and it still has that problem so i am going to reupolster in the lightning seat style, and no problems with trans but i have not really done any towing or offroading; and what is the multifunction switch?

wow, the only problem i have had with it is the windsheild washers not spraying but i blame that on the pump since the wipers still move when i push the button but it does not want to spray but that is only sometimes.

Also do you have the factory foglights, if not are the wires for the lights there or would i have to run wires for a new switch to add foglights. I am hoping to add a winch ready front bumper or a trail ready one
