It does depend on alot. If you're paying a shop to do it all, expect a minimum cost of $2200. For the home mechanic to rebuild, the cheapest is to buy a short block and use your heads, fuel system.... That'll run you about $1000. I had a chance to rebuild mine at a community college using their equipment for machining and was quoted a ballpark price of $650 (wish I'd done it now). The most expensive way is to keep your block and then go the machine shop and pay their bills for boring, head work crankshaft truing,.... But using your own components, you end up with a motor that runs smoother (nothing is out of balance any worse than it was before).
