Hey everyone, just got my excal x3 installed. Matt sent me hybrid race, mild street economy, and aggressive tow. Just had some questions for Matt or any of the Spartan guys or anyone running his tunes. Matt told me the hybrid race is new and safe for stock heads and studs and that it adds 170 hp. I haven't loaded it yet (kind of being a wimp, thought is a little scary). I have loaded the mild street economy, and only put around 75 miles on it so far, but it seems to have just a little more snap than stock, it shifts just a touch firmer than stack also, and so far the fuel guage is moving a little slower it seems. Too soon to tell for sure. Anyway, my questions are as follows;
1. My fifth wheel camper weighs 9k I am curious about the best mileage
and drivability tune for this purpose?
2. My fifth wheel and enclosed trailer weighs 16k. Same thing here, I am
curious about mileage and drivability tunes.
3. Just my enclosed trailer weighs up to 7k, curious about tunes for
drivability.
The only reason I ask about this is on the Spartan website Matt has several towing tunes advertised and I am wanting the safest tunes for each of my towing situations. When I talked to Matt he told me the mild street tune will be ok with my enclosed trailer and a light load. Just wanting to maximize the benefit of Matt's abilities. Thank you
I just got mine tuner and tunes last week also. I downloaded the hybrid race and wow. I called Matt and he also said it was safe. I just wanted to make sure. Right now I have the agg street econ and its a lot better than stock. I like the hybrid race, just a little scared.
Even though we assign a "Max" tow rating to each file; it is very hard to say just how much you can safely tow with each one....such depends on other modifications (gauges, exhaust, ect) and very much depending on driving style and skill.
Naturally, our Heavy Tow is designed for Max GVWR and I would recommend this for your 16k load.
With gauges, any of the other mentioned loads should be reasonably supportable with about any tune you desire; so long as you have a pyrometer and can measure EGT. If not; stick with our Aggressive Tow; as it won't allow EGT's to climb high enough to cause damage under any circumstances.
As far as mileage is concerned- you simply have to experiment to find out which one will do the best for you. This depends tremendously on the chassis of the truck and the driving style of the driver.
Thanks Matt. When you get a chance could I get you to send me the Heavy tow? No hurry at all as I am not planning on hooking the two trailers together again until this spring. Also, what is the difference between the mild street economy-the aggressive street economy-and the hybrid race? Just wondering. Thanks
i already have it. i actually had Evan write it for my truck, but it might be a different one than you have. It was a file that he wrote me based on what i told him i wanted.
it is basically two files in one depending on TPS
how much is it for each file? I would like to get the hybrid race file...

If you purchased your SCT XCal & tunes from Matt originally then there is no charge, if you did not purchase from Matt then you need to call him and he will tell you the price for his custom tunes.

unfortunately I did not buy from him... thanks for your reply!
are you not happy with the tunes from you original supplier ?? have you even asked them about a hotter file ?? out of respect for the original supplier of the SCT i would go that route first, nothing against matt at all. as a matter of fact i'm sure he would love to write you some tunes and make a little cash. he is very knowledgeable with the sct and the 6.0 that is for sure !!

no worries man, it's just that i have a hybrid file that i had evan from spartan write me and we called it hybrid. i have several versions of it with different shifting parameters. it is an awesome file !!
