Glow plugs

I have a early 99 psd with 103000 miles and I think some of the glow plugs arent working. At 40 degrees I have to crank the truck over 4 or 5 times and a lot of white smoke appears when it does start. I tried a new glow plug realy but it didnt seam to help. If I need new glow plugs what should I get? Is this a weakend job or do I have to take it in?
Thanks
Joel

Get the standard Motorcraft/Beru glowplugs. Not a difficult job (IMO) if you're comfortable turning wrenches. Should be able to get it done in a day without problems.
