Have a 94 2wd, auto, 5.0 litre. Have to get it state inspected and the only thing left I have is the speedo, it doesn't work. The digital odometer is inop as well. The tach, and other gauges work, just the speedo and odometer.
I have not gotten down to the tranny to check it out yet but any ideas?
So if I have a ABS light on, and the speedo is fed through the speed sensor, so thats why no speedo? If I correct the ABS problem then my speedo should be ok?
Actually the truck is one of my kids buddies, so thats why I'm not 100% sure of all of the symptoms. He just said it does shift weird sometimes and he has a check engine light sometimes. I thought it was the ABS, so Im having him double check.

Subford, you've been a lot of help, thanks. This kid lives with his mom and his dad left them a long time ago, so he doesn't have a lot of extra money. He for sure has a VSS and not cable then? So the first and easiest to check is fuses, then the VSS on the rear, either the sensor itself or wires, then the PSOM?

One more thing Subford, does the 94 have a VSS or ABS sensor?
Some diagrams call it a VSS and some an ABS.
Most auto parts stores call it an ABS but I think most Ford dealers call it a VSS sensor.
Some auto parts stores will try to sell the one for the transmission that is the wrong one.
You're the man, pictures included!! lol, really thanks though. I just called a auto parts store and they are about 15.00 or so, thats not bad at all. We will go through the troubleshooting you suggested and if we have to get one I will make sure he says its not the one for the tranny, again thanks friend.
One other note some times you can get by taking the VSS/ABS sensor out and wiping off the junk and putting it back in. This would also say that you need to change the oil in the rear end.
