If you replace the vss and it doesnt work make sure you check the wires. I fault this problem for months and couldnt figure out what the problem was. Subford gave me lots of help and ideas but i still couldnt figure it out. Come to find out about a foot from the vss the wire had corroded into and this was the problem. So make sure you check the wiring dont want you to go crazy and spend lots of money over a broken wire like I did.

Cool, thanks for the tip. I got up in there today and removed the VSS and cleaned it off, it didn't help. I will check out the wires however, thanks. I don't like to just shotgun parts though, but we will get it figured it out.

Here is the wiring, the 1994 VSS/ABS sensor.

I first put up a 1992 wiring diagram and then re posted it with a 1994. The 1994 has some explanations in it.

I had to ask the kid if he had cruise control, as that matters when picking up the sensor, he has cruise but THAT doesnt work either, lol. Oh well, one problem at a time.

It should be the same sensor with or without cruise control. The cruise control gets its information from the PSOM and not the VSS sensor.

For some reason all three of the parts places asked if it had cruise or not. I hope with the cruise not working that it may point more to the PSOM being bad? Yikes, I bet thats not easy to change out.

In some older Ford trucks (before 1992) they had a different VSS on the transmission for cruise or if it did not have cruise.
That is why I said that most part stores would try to sell you the wrong VSS sensor. The one they will try to sell you looks like this.

The hardest part of changing out a PSOM is removing the cluster.
You would have to get another PSOM from a salvage yard by buying the whole cluster and taking it out of that one and putting it in his.
Ford will not sell you a PSOM, but they will replace it for about $400.00.
You can get a cluster from a salvage yard without a tach for about $30-$50.

Oh ok, thanks. I will hope for the best and hope its the VSS, but if we gotta get the PSOM then we will do what we gotta do, appreciate the help. I took the VSS off today, and with that knowledge and the pic you posted yesterday and today I know what I need now. You rock.

Actually Sub I was told my a guru at work that the tranny sensor is the one I want. He said the speedo is controlled via that sensor, and also the check engine light and cruise will work after that as well.

He said the rear one is for your abs.

Also the guy at Napa said the same thing, the speedo is controlled by the one that goes into the tranny.
