81 300 knocks
Ok heres the story, I have an 81 300 that is a california truck, thus came with the extra emissions stuff. I no longer live in ca, and have disconected the emmisions and have just run a vacume line from the carb to the distributor to make it idle up a bit and adjust the idle with the carb. having done this the truck runs fine, with perhaps a bit to much idle, + 100-200 rpms but not excessive or enough to make it a difficult driver. my problem is this, with anything but 93 octane premium gas , as soon as the truck gets warm it knocks like a diesel. to the point I can hear it over the radio. I understand the egr puts exaust back into the combustion process thus cooling the combustion event and keeps this model year from knocking etc...ok great is there an easy fix to keep this year from knocking without the egr working(short of premium gasand or severe loss of performance) or are the heads/pistons just configured in a way that without a total swap , its just going to knock. thanks
