missfire on #1

missfire on #1

I have a 98 f150 with a 4.6. i cut the cats out of it awhile ago. a short time after, my #1 cylinder was missfiring. i took the plug out, and the electrode was melted off. all the other plugs were fine. i replaced all the plug and wires, but it still misses on #1. every plug that i use in that cylinder, ends up to get black and wet with gas. I want to stat at the begining. first, what would cause my plug to melt the electrode?

Fouling because of intermittant firing. Maybe a bad coilpack assuming the wire is not faulty.

Flip the coil pack over and check for cracking on the backside of #1.....

I bought a bran new coil for it. and it still end up to be black and wet with gas. I know the coil is fire all of the four cylinders.

If the plug is wet, it could be a sticking injector. Pull the fuel rail off on that side, but leave the injectors connected. Prime the fuel pump(place a paper towel under the row of injectors) and see if any of the injectors leak fuel out. With the system pressurized, no gas should leak out of any of the 4 injectors on the bank 1 (or bank 2 for that matter) side.

Edit:
And a coil pack does not have to misfire on all 4 cylinders to be bad. We see it alot on the windstars, that due to vibration and other factors, you will get an intermittant misfire on a hole. This can be traced back to a hairline crack on the underside of the coil pack for whatever cyl is missing.
