my friend has a F250 LD truck (looks like a F150), ext cab, 4.6 auto 4x4 with half a billion miles on it (I think 240k) I think is a 97, looks like a 97 or 98, has big chrome bumper on it with black panels where the fog lights would be. Always run and drove fine. He said he crossed a set of RR tracks that were rough and immediatly stalled the truck. Found out is blew the fuse for the ECM circuit. Changed the fuse and it blew again. Jumped the fuse and truck will start usually, but runs weak, maybe on 4 cylinders. Hardly enough power to move on its own. Sounds like it idles fine, but NO power when you hit the throttle. Sounds like a grounded circuit problem, but I cant seem to find it, any ideas ?
Short circuit to ground on the circuit that supplies almost everything under the hood. Supplied by fuse F24 in the under hood fuse panel. YOu're right. The engine won't run with that fuse blown.
For several discussions with background, SEARCH using keyword "F24*"
Look first at the O2 sensor harnesses to see if one has gotten onto the exhaust or a drive shaft. Most common cause. Otherwise, reports have included finding chafed harnesses at various places with no real pattern.
If you need the schematics, post the exact specifics of the truck in question and I'll post the drawings.
