Adding Knapheide box. Should I upgrade, rebuild or reman old tranny?

I have a '94 F-250, 300 E4OD. Tranny is starting to go - shudders and chatters under load. 135000 miles. Just found a Knapheide service body for $350 at a U-Pull. The service body is definately heavier than the stock box, especially when loaded up. Looking for recommendations. Should I
(1) have existing tranny rebuilt, or
(2) swap in a reman E4OD, or
(3) swap in a junkyard pull, or
(4) swap in another model transmission - which one?

Go with a reman E40D with a new torque converter, in fact the converter may be where all the trouble is coming from. Try first and see how it pulls the extra weight if you change beds. You might want to put a shift kit in if shifts don't feel right. My guess is you won't need to do anything other than stock. Good Luck

Just a suggestion but, when was the last time you had a complete tune-up? There have been cases (me included) where the truck shuddered under a load only to find out that it was NOT the transmission. A complete tune-up (plugs, wires, cap & rotor) has solved this problem for a few of us. Just would hate to see you go out and get a new/rebuilt transmission only to still have a shudder. Good luck!
