Help How Much will it TOW???

Hello Everyone,
I don't know anything about towing... I need help.
Due to a death in the family I was asked to sell a really big truck.
The guys in the 7.3L forum helped me figure out what kind it was and I got it listed on Ebay. Now I've been asked the question from a bidder... Will it tow a 4 horse trailer... And I have no idea what to answer since the past owner is no longer with us. I know it was used to pull a 36ft coachman and the wife of the owner said it's pulled heavier but wasn't any more specific than that.

Truck details...

1994 Ford F-350 Centurion crew cab dually,
Low Miles (51,000) Beautifully Maintained
Automatic, 7.3L IDI turbo diesel with Banks Power Pack
Factory Equipped with turbo charger
This truck as has all the bells and whistles...and two airhorns
Centurion's "Austin" upgraded package, No expense was spared.
dual tanks and additional 90+ gallon auxillary tank
20k Fifth Wheel Hitch
Lots of extras to make towing a breeze
a CB radio and trailer brake controller, in addition to the V style towing tailgate, and headache rack.
The interior is plush, wood paneling, very clean and oh so comfy
Too many fabulous features to list, custom paint, mudflap skirt, grab handles, lights ect.

It's listed on Ebay with all the photos if that helps...
I took a picture of the write up on the door, but it doesn't say what it tows.

I would say it wouldn't have a problem towing a 4 horse trailer. You may want to ask them what the loaded weight/wet weight of the 4 horse trailer they plan on pulling is?

He will be all set with a four horse trailer. A farm I used to work at had one almost just like that and it towed a four horse head to head with a 20' living quarters and tack room without an issue. The only difference was it was a stick.

He should have absolutely no problem pulling a 4 horse trailer - maybe even if it's loaded with bricks to the top! Four horses probably weigh 4800 lbs. (1200 each) and the trailer probably weighs less than 3000 lbs. This 7800 lbs. total is significantly less than the 36 ft. Coachman.

O.O Where do you shop for trailers?! lol my four horse stock trailer weighs in at a very low 4200lbs (scale weight, empty). Steel trailers can EASILY push 6000lbs empty. Plus 5000lbs worth of horseflesh and a ton of tack, and you'd still have no trouble towing. But 3000lbs for a 4H trailer is WAY underestimated

I bought mine in Colorado :P We did have one client, who owned one of the top TB stallions in the state, ship in ALL THE TIME with their gooseneck trailer with optional sides and half-roof (no kidding). That one I guess COULD be techincally a 4H, and probably weighed in around 3000lbs (it was steel). But MOST 4H trailers, if they are enclosed, are going to be closer to 5000lbs if they are aluminum and 6000lbs if they are steel

So, I goofed on my estimate of the trailer weight! I haven't played with a horse trailer in a long time. From now on, I'll wait for someone else to stick there neck out with weight estimates! I am learning, though! Thanks for the info.

Hey I stick my neck all over the place... I appreciate all the input. It sounds like a four horse trailer should be no prob to tow.
Thanks soooo much!

Thanks guys, Based on your posts. My husband responded to the bidders questions with this.... The guy hasn't continued to bid however...

"Will this pull a four horse trailer?"

Thank you for your interest in this truck.
We are nowhere near an authority on pulling horses(wish we were, we love horses). For towing, the answer itself is quite complicated. A four horse trailer has other factors involved such as its own construction and movement of weight movement while in transit. This truck would likely have no problem pulling 15,000 pounds. You can look at the picture with the GVWR and GAWR and make some calculation on your trailer weight and horse weight and the percent of tongue weight on the truck. This truck has rear GAWR of 7400 lbs with a limited slip axle and 4.1 ratio. Ford will spec one weight, you can likely easily pull more, and anything else may require a Commercial Drivers License. It's likely your trailer weighs a few tons plus a few tons. We did an internet search on this for you and found a 2-horse with dressing room will weigh about 3,300 lbs. In addition to the trailer, you must also take into consideration the weight of horses and related tack/gear being transported. A safe rule-of-thumb is to allow 1,200 lbs. per horse. You should still be fine, but you should ask a real authority on this for your safety and for the horses.
Hope this helps! Best of luck and Happy Bidding!

Now that's a good answer! I still think that you should keep that beauty of a truck.

I use to pull a 4 horse stock trailer with a 1992 Chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 with a 4.3 V6 and a 5sp. With 4 horses inside. It pulled fine at 60-65 MPH. So an F350 with a Power Joke better pull it.

By those specs it does sound like this truck should definitely do the trick. Is the Banks Power Pack a Power Joke???
