About a month or so ago I went to changing my plugs on my 04 fx4 3 valve. I had read a wealth of information on this site and tsb's and followed them EXCEPT for using the recommended penetrating oil! I used PB blaster instead... Results one of 4 plugs broke in the head. And of course it was the back plug drivers side. So after finally getting the plug shell out. I ordered in the special removal tool @ 160.00 and I bought the penetrating they advised KROIL!!! boys this stuff works and i mean on anything you got rusted or siezed. This past weekend I got up the courage to change out the other 4 on the passenger side following all recommendations of course this time. Warm engine, break plug loose slightly 1/8 turn add Kroil just up to hex sides let set appx 15 minutes tighten back up and turn loose 1/2 turn ( should feel and hear distinct snapping sound. stop let set some more another 5 minutes tighten up should pop some more and loosen 3-4 pops or clicks stop again repeat untill snapps become as one then remove. yes it does take some time but you dont want the alternative. took me about 2 hours doddling around the shop then loosening but ALL 4 plugs came out fine. I got to hand it to Kroil and all the tsb's and you fellas on here for the results. sorry to be so long winded about this but I think this subject lots of patience!! I have done my friends truck this evening and took about 3 hours same success on a 04 5.4 3 valve. Good luck and Keep the faith! PS my 04 has 46,000 miles thanks
Hope that's all it takes to have a successful plug change.
The Kroil is some pretty good stuff. It's called the oil that creeps and for good reason.
Try Holding the hex head of a bolt with the threads pointing down, and spray the bottom tip of the thread with kroil, and you can actually watch the oil go straight up the bolt!
u had to change plugs at 46,000 miles? Should i be doing this? I thought it was 100,000 miles or so. Also where does a guy get this Kroil that creeps!?
Most stores don't carry it, but you can search kroil and it will give you their web site and you can buy it from them. I lucked out and found a hardware store in a near by town with it.
The plug change is suposed to be at 100,000 miles, but do the the plugs breaking in the head because of built up carbon, some people are trying to prevent them from breaking by changeing them before to much carbon has been built up.
I'm at 97,500 and it's getting closer and closer.

I realize you have probably read this from me before but I thought I would say that if you cannot find the Kroil (AeroKroil) without going on-line, you can substitute Sea Foam Deep Creep (available at Advance Auto and probably others). The key component is the gasoline base that penetrates and dissolves the carbon deposits. This is why liquid wrench and PB Blaster will not do the job.
I also forgot to mention ... I did also use Permatex Nickle Anti Sieze on the plug shell going back in. Caution though they say not get any down on the sparking portion of the plug.
boots6868, I got a question for you.
I'm assuming that's the 8 oz bottle of the permatex, and you have plenty left....
Would you consider selling what you have left????
I really don't feel like giveing some store $15 shipping for a $20 product.
If you don't plan on useing it again, I'm in need of a spark plug change(2,500 miles left till), and I could use some.
