Well got a clutch kit and motor mounts waiting for when I pull the motor out to replace thr frame perches. crazyredneckanyhow is helping me out with the perches what a life saver!!! Thanks as to pictures I will work on that last time I tried I had trouble and couldn't load them. Oh and for the followers I have chosen to get another cab due to rust around the top of the wind shield I suspect this was from the roof lights leaking.
Ok well got the motor perches in the truck new motor mounts and the headers are on the bad I got the wrong clutch so now back to the auto parts oh yeah it's Sunday there closed or can't order what I want. So the headers were a royal pain had to lift the engine take the starter off and cut a section of the frame two inches long and half an inch wide. Along with cutting the frame I had to disconnect the power steering lines and relocate the fuel line. So now to find the correct clutch and make it correct!!
Whoa Whoa whoa. Please tell me i didnt read that you cut the frame? I hope at least you didnt use torches. Where torches leave a rough edge its pefect for cracking the frame. Thats how my supercab was. It actually started to crack all the way down the outside of the frame. I had to fix it then went ahead and boxed the frame.
yeah you read it correctly cut the frame was not happy to do it but being it had the 351 mounts the frames boxed section came back about two inches further or maybe more to allow for the mounting holes of the motor perches to come back further. so I notched out what I needed with an angle grinder it was the only thing to do since every thing is so tight . It was not the main frame but part of the boxed section where the motor mount perches bolt in. I literally can't change the starter unless I drop the tranny bell housing or remove the header, I can't pull the motor unless I pull the headers I have about half an inch at the collector flange and crossmember for clearance so whenI pick the motor up to pull it they hang up. What a pain but i wanted the headers so I will have to deal with it when the time comes. I have to unbolt them then lift the motor to be able to remove them it is only three inches that makes them drop in place. Oh and i will be out side in the cold rain here shortly checking out this clutch and pressure plate I hope this one fits measures slightly larger then the one I took out but smaller then the first one I got from the parts store!!!!!!
Ok got a good clutch and all put in the truck finally! Now I just need to put the hood back on the exhaust and floor plate access over the tranny! Six hours to put the truck back together not to bad but could have been quicker. Now need to go over the brakes and parking brake assembly.
Oh I wanted to say according to the 4x4 shop the axles have 4-10 gears and that is what they got when they counted and what is stamped on the axle tubes. But when decoded on here it said like 3-56 or some thing don't remember but not what is on the vin tag as I said had the front diff and all redone and it is 4-10. Oh and truck sounds so good with the headers under her!!!!!
Ok exhaust is on the hood is on and trans access cover is on as well!!!! So after all this was done I took her for a drive ran good sounded good!!! So this morning I started her up instead of the 97 figured I would drive her to work. Well after starting her I hear this rattle so I get out and look around guess I didn't tighten a clamp up enough or didn't have the tail pipe into the muffler all th way they seperated on me. Now I'm going to weld them together that will teach them lol!!!! Got the radio hooked up as well sounds pretty good.
Ok have not been doing much since I haven't been home, Last time I was on vacation I headed to WV and got a bed and other parts from Cheeto. Now I found a cab in pretty good shape from a 76 HIBOY with AC.
