2004 sluggish perfomance
I've got a 2004 with 167k miles on it. It seems very sluggish on bottom end. It seems to kick in above 2500 rpm but a man can get killed pulling into traffic. The EGR is new and the turbo has been reconditioned. There are no CEL on. I've got a new air filter ordered but I can't imagine that bogging it down so bad. Is this thing supposed to be that way? I can't believe anyone would buy one if this is the way it's supposed to be. I am comparing this to a 7.3 and I know it will be different but Dayum! Am I missing something? It purrs like a kitten and starts instantly.

When was the last fuel filter change? If over 10K then replace. Have you physically looked at the air filter? Don't believe the dummy gauge.

I changed all the filters last nite and no change in performance. I drove a buddy's 06 and it has noticeably more low end. Would the VGT show up as a CEL or would I have to pull the codes? Where's the best place to get one if it's bad?

I don't think the turbo throws a code when the vanes sticking. Mine just went in to be cleaned since the vanes were sticking and i couldn't pull up a code with my tuner. The dealer can run diagnostics and see if the turbo is working properly.
