I can tell you I have heard mixed reviews from people that upgrade their turbos from variable to fix. I know Bean abandoned making turbos for the 6.0 because he couldn't get them to consistantly work. I don't know what luck Matt has had with the turbos as of yet(he offers both a/m variable and fixed turbos). I think I'm going to stick with the variable because I like the ability to use it as an exhaust brake, but I tow, if you don't then it doesn't matter to you. I know ATS has them, a little high priced, but I've heard a little more consistant good readings from people that have used those versus others. Best I can say at this point is that it's pot luck.

We have been using Borg-Warner S300's with our kits thus far.

It is a reasonably-priced, durable, and easily serviced turbo and we have had great luck with them. Much of the advancement has been in the tuning department to rid the computer of all associated VGT parameters- any "leftover" code can really throw unrelated mapping out of calibration.

I do not recommend retrofitting them to a truck with stock injectors AND stock cam; simply because they will not provide enough fuel to properly load the turbo and build boost without hesitation. However, with upgraded injectors and/or a cam, the response is damn nearly that of the VGT with much reduced backpressure and greater efficiency.

Our Stage 1 injectors matched with our 66mm S300 is an awesome combination; as the 66mm will clean up ALL of the fuel and provide well over 500RWHP at EGT levels that are almost stock- which provides for save drivability, even with heavy loads.

The Stage 1 Performance injector; the Tow and Economax injectors will clean up with a 64mm.

Can you get that size with the vgt(you know how I am with the brake function as it relates to towing)? Or would what the non-vgt is capable of would I not miss that function?

You would need a mechanical exhaust brake to emulate the VGT shutdown in your current program with a non-VGT turbo.

The benefit of the non-VGT is #1 a far more efficient turbine (as far as exhaust flow is concerned) and #2 less mechanical parts to fail. The shortcoming is a lack of response compared with the VGT if all supporting parts aren't configured correctly.

Knowing my set-up and what I need my truck for what would you suggest(I can't believe I'm already thinking about a turbo when I just got done gettin your injectors and all that other stuff in my truck not two weeks ago, 6L PWR was right, it is a sickness with no known cure)?
