starting troubles

my 79 f150 is having some starting issues. it has the 300 with a 4spd tranny. when i turn the key to start the truck, nothing happens, just a little click sound then everything electrical stops working. i have to unhook the battery cable and rehook it up for anything electrical to work again. it used to be that after a few time of doing this the truck would eventually crank over. but now nothing, same click then everything electrical is dead and the process wont work anymore. i tried it about 20 times. could the relay be bad? i cant really think of anything else atm. any input would be helpful.

Completely clean the battery cables & Terminals plus take your battery to a shop for free load testing.

No electrical tests should be carried until the battery is confirmed in good shape and fully-charged.

Also, Look for corrosion within the battery cable itself under the protective insulation.

fixed

thanks for the tips. i put a new cable on and she started right up . i am curious though, how would a bad cable make everything stop working like that? because if you unhooked and rehooked it up, all electrical would be fine again and just stop working only if you tried starting.

Corrosion ...corrosion ...corrosion

Sometimes you can see it ..some times you can't.

That's why one should maintain all electrical connections every once in a while

Guess Ford minds think alike. When you move the cable it makes the connection again and the corrsion breaks up
