Hey everyone I Just bought a superchip programmer from a friend but nobody seems to know what the real numbers are for each setting. Just kinda curious if anyone on here knows off hand superchips website Says:
TOW SAFE: +40hp and +70 Ft-lb. torque, towing up to the manufacturer's specified maximum weight limit. ECONOMY: +50hp and +85 Ft-lb. torque, towing 6,000 lbs or less.
PERFORMANCE: +80hp and +115 Ft-lb torque, NO towing.
Yet other sites that sell the programmer list this:
1705 MAX Micro Tuner 1999-2003 7.3L
TOW SAFE: +80hp and +120 Ft-lb. torque, towing up to the manufacturer's specified maximum weight limit. ECONOMY: +90hp and +175 Ft-lb. torque, towing 6,000 lbs or less. PERFORMANCE: +110hp and +200 Ft-lb torque, NO towing.
Oh yea my Truck is an 02 7.3L
Thanks for your help
Matt
The sheet that comes with the tuner says all trucks are different. You have a huge range of years that this tuner will work for, Bieng you have an 02 you will probably see the higher side of any of those numbers on the PSD ford had a few years to tweak with it than they did in 99, the biggest improvement was the turbo. I have one and i think realistically the top numbers you posted are probably close but still high, remember they measure those at the crank, not at the rear wheels. And anyone who would put a tow program at 80hp above stock would be insane and shortly out of business.
ok just curious I see you have gauges I ordered mine but just kinda curious as to what you see for readings unloaded I know it may not be the same but just curious what I am looking at?
I looked at the instructions that came with my 1705 and they say nothing about performance. On the pretty box that the 1705 came in it says "Gain up to 80 horsepower and up to 185 ft lbs torque increase on diesel engines. Results vary by vehicle- your results could be better."
That's as good as it gets. I note that Superchips is a FTE sponsor. Click on it up above and it'll take you there.
I usually run in the middle setting perf-tow, i tow a job trailer from time to time and overall i get the best mileage with that tune. I run 37in tires though, u might be better in the high mode if you run smaller tires. Ya the EGTs will get high in a hurry in any mode if you stick with full throttle for a long time, or towing. I would advise 4in exhaust or at least cut the muffler out of the stock exhaust it will help with the egts, just dont run over 1000-1200 degrees for very long and youll be fine. The tranny cooler will help alot, just dont run it over 200 degrees for an extended period of time either but with that cooler you shouldnt see over 170 under all normal conditions.

The last set of numbers are way out of the realm of reality. I think the first set are a little to high to be honest. I run mine in the TOW-PERF (the middle setting). I seem to have the best combination of power and mileage in that setting. Your EGTs should be fine in that setting (and in tow) as long as you don't stand on it and keep standing on it. I can floor it from 40 to 70 mph and the EGTs won't go above 1200*. I don't like the 3rd to 4th shift. The torque converter locks at the same time so under medium or heavy throttle I manually shift it into overdrive.

If I can remember that far back, Superchips offered a updated version. I originally had the 80 hp. When they brought out the newer 110 hp model my old man got the 80. Seems to me the 110 progammer had an A after 1705 or something, honestly do not remember.
They both have good mild tunes, but my truck would do funny things when running the programmers. I remember one day the cruise control would not shutoff. Talk about a big surprise.
Yup me too. I have one on my Wifes Excursion right now. And it does funny things all the time. At an idle,it'll shut off all of sudden for no reason. Or while driving/cruising down the road it'll stumble too, for no reason with no warning. It's also going in the Trash real soon too. Gonna DP'r. Country. On Edit: The Excusrsion, not the Wife. HAH HAH..
