Ok so i have a 97 F150 4x4 with a 4.6and right now ive got a sido flowmaster with tips coming out right in front of the rear wheel, im throwing around the idea of just cutting off the muffler and tips and just clamping a peice of pipe in there and run in front of the tire again, Has anyone does this and how would it sound? any ideas or comments?
"how would it sound?" Like the police pulling you over & explaining the local ordinances about excessive noise? If you have that much trouble hearing your V8 turn down the stereo.

Ya but the 4.6 is not near as loud as a 5.4. I had one of our cops in the Napa store in town here and tell me how good my truck sounds. Its loud enough to notice but its not excessive.
My 5.4L true duals are very loud! I regularly set off car alarms in parking lots from the street and when i park in the driveway with the engine running it vibrates picture frames on the walls of my house! Just right! And don't preach at me old guys about the excessive noise, i know alot of old men that straight pipe their trucks so it's easier to hear that their truck is running! I've also diagnosed plenty of problems with ignition and fuel issues with the loud exhaust before it manifests itself as much of a problem. Every time i buy a vehicle, it goes down to my favorite exhaust guys and gets a muffler-delete cat back system on 'er.

so you kept the cat and just run a straight pipe from there?
I currently have the cat leading into a flowmaster and then split into a dual rear-exit system.
sounds great when i get on it, but not obnoxiously loud when cruising on the highway.

These trucks arent very loud straight piped, as long as you keep the 4 cats on. Thats how my truck is, i cut mine off right before the muffler, and its not even that loud unless you floor it.
It sound very similar to a 40 series flowmaster, i have had people ask me if i have a flowmaster on mine. I would put duel flowmasters on but, it would sound pretty much the same but $300-400 cheaper.
yes i plan on keeping the 4 cats for now, this is gunna be free basically since im doing it myself, eventually i will have only the first 2 cats and have straight pipes back but im saving to get that work done, and ive talked to 2 cops in my town, fairly small town, and they both said it would be ok, my buddy has a straight piped 67 mustang with a 289, u wanna talk about loud, and no trouble with cops, school police officer complimented him on how it sounded, im not worried about sound levels, just figured id ask on yalls input, thanks again! cant wait till next weekend to get it done
