I have 92 f150 inline 6. the smog pump works but the tube to the cat is broke I t makes annoying noise at part acceleration. Can I take the pump off or will it cause internal engine problems. Or can I block the tube off and dumb it wherever it goes in the motor
you can remove the smog pump, but if you have to have it smogged it will need to be present, along with the air injection pipe. and all the other smog goodies.
If you still have the cats installed you will need the air tube to keep them cleaned out.
If you removed the cat. You still need the air pump to put air into the head or it can wig out the O2 sensor. You can remove the line running down to the cat though. I have done this to my truck. You will need to locate the inline anti reversion valve and move it up to the air pump. This will keep the noise from the pump low. But you will still hear it. Sounds sorta like a bad bearing, but isn't that noticeable if you keep the valve. It looks like a little steel pod mounted on the line where it turns from steel to rubber.
