53-56 front bumper

I would like to hear from anyone who has moved the front bumper back , closer to the lower valence on a 53-56 F100. How much did you move it ? I have redrilled holes and sawed off enough frame to move mine back 2 and a quarter inches. The only bumper I have at present is all warped and twisted so I can't really tell exactly how it's going to fit . I hope I didn't cut off too much . I know the bumper shouldn't touch the valence panel . What about narrowing the bumper ? I would love to see some close-up pictures. Thanks

This is tucked back 2" It gives me just enough room to get my fingers behind to polish the gravel pan.

Damn it.....The sites best looking truck. You make weep Wayne. Jeeeeez............
oh yea, 2 inches looks good and that is the amount that I am going to hack off as well. For some reason a few of the chassis repop guys eliminated 1.5" from the new units they make. I like 2.0 as it just looks tighter.

I have about a half inch from the valance. I can't get my fingers in from the top, but I reach it from underneath. Tightening the bolts was a treat!...

Ed and Wayne, I wonder if you guys just lopped off the frame horns and rebolted or did you section and use the stock boltholes. If sectioned, where did you make the cut.??

PS: Ed, the low looks fantastic!!!

Excellent question. I want to do the same thing with my 53, but had no idea how far to move the bumper back. My truck was in pieces and I have no bumper or brackets at this time. The idea of removing a section of frame and re-welding the piece with the factory holes sounds like the best way to go.

I just estimated the distance and cut the horn with a sawsall. Then hang the bumper and redrill the holes. I made a few cuts first until I found the right distance I wanted. Don't cut off too much because you can't go back.
Thanks for the comments on my truck also...
