Hey,
I'm looking for a receiver hitch for a 95 f150.It needs to be at least a class 3, i only tow an 8000lb trailer at very most but i like the added insurance.I know this isnt the classifieds but i didn't see any receiver hitch's for sale. I figured maybe someone might have one laying around or on a truck they dont tow with and just havent put it up for sale. I'm in southern California and would perfer pick it up locally.
Class III hitches are desgined for 5,000lbs max. I don't think your 95 F-150 is even rated to carry 8000lbs. I believe the GVW on a 95 is around 5000lbs. Class 4 hitches are rated at 8,000lbs. As far as finding a hitch have you tried looking at getting a new one, I would think that would be the safest way to go. I guess I personally don't usually buy used receiver hitches, because you never who has done what with it before you bought it. I think your best bet would be to buy one new, either in a store or on the internet.
A class III reciever hitch is about $150-200 new, I guess for that little $$$ I wouldn't get a used one for $75 that may have been abused. But you may not be able to afford that, so it's up to you. If you want a used one you may want to try Fleabay(ebay) for one.
I guess your right. I might as well buy a new one that way you know your free and clear of any abuse. $130 is alot cheaper than a new trailer and whats in the trailer. Thanks for your help
I wouldn't personally purchase used hitches... you don't know where they've been or how many times they were backed into Safety is #1 to me, and while you can certainly find new duds, I feel a lot better hitching my ponies onto warented equipment in good, known repair.
I just got a Class V 14k hitch off JCWhitney.com about 5 months ago for just over 220 bucks delivered. They stock lots of hitches, just make sure if you do it yourself to have a torque wrench handy
I just looked it up in the manual when I test drove one last fall. I needed a truck to pull my lightweight 5er and my '89 straight six had a broken and rotted frame. So I checked the axle code, 3.55. Then looked it up in the manual, said 7,900. May have been 1996. It was the square body though, and newer than '94.
I know the '97 was a whole new truck. Was it heavier? Maybe with the SCrew it was heavier? They use so many variables. lol. who knows.
