I need a new or rebuilt one for my 1986 F150 4.9.
I now have the original stock s/b.
Two things?
Should I change out to a different carb? Or stay with the s/b?
Ive been looking and I cant believe they are charging almost 400 bucks for a s/b carb. Anyone know of a company with better prices ?
Thanks

Most 1v carbs aren't hard to rebuild. I picked up a spare carb at the junk yard, rebuilt it swapped it in. I would usually replace the float too. Try PAW or other auto parts wharehouse places for carbs that will fit. Check out some of the dedicated ford six sites for carb conversions.

If you are mechanically inclined you can take your carb to a nappa or car quest and get a rebuild kit for about $25.Its really not hard at all.It comes with directions.carb problems are usually gumed up neddles or floats not working properlly. All these things get refurbished with thew kit.Buy that along with about 3 or 4 cans of carb cleaner and you have a new one in about 2-3 hours.Just need some torx drivers an regular screwdrivers.Go for it nothing to lose.
