Go to bob is the oil guy and they can give you info on filters. For myself I use the motorcraft and pure one filters. From the test results they've shown usually there is a give and take on which one is best.
Id say that Wix is the best. From what I understand they make Motorcraft filters. I know that Fram is the worst. They have a lot less filtering medium than other brands.
The other day I was at Wal-Mart getting a case of oil and there was this cute little blonde-haired gal looked at oil filters. I could tell she didnt know what to get because she looked like an Amish person at Circuit City. I steered her away from Fram and told her to go to the local NAPA, Autozone, Carquest, etc and get a Wix.
If I had been thinking I would have asked her for her number because she was a lil cutie, but I was pretty hung over from a night of drinking, so I wasnt exactly thinking too clearly.
Wix and NAPA filters are supposed to be really good.
What I don't understand is the Fram 'bashing'.
I've used Fram filters in every car I've owned, starting with a 1962 Pontiac Catalina w/a 389, and I've NEVER had any sort of oil related failure.
Even when racing w/ my B-I-L and a 1970 Nova SS w/ a 396 cu in. / 375 h.p.
Not one.
So. . . my question is. . . what sort of real data is there to prove that Fram is junk? (Or, is everyone that bashes Fram just getting the information from 'the internets'??)
On my 85 Bronco I use to have lifter noise on cold starts for about half a minute after an engine rebuild was done. No one could figure why, until someone suggested changing brand of filter. The Fram oil filter was the cause. Apparently they are restrictive. At least in the 351w application, which as I recall was a PH8 model. A switch to Purolator fixed my problem. I suggest you read that test I posted. They trashed Fram too.

Ive been wondering the same thing.... as most people i know use these filters.
Last I heard, the Frams had less filtering media than the better ones. They also apparently have poorly designed bypass valves that either opened way too easily or stuck open, both of which would cause it to stop filtering the oil. But that's just what I've heard.

I used FRAM also, but years back. About ten years ago seems everyone was telling me Fram had changed and was bad.
Personally, I think if you change your oil (using a good brand) at 3,000 miles and the engine is clean, you probably wont have a problem anyway.
I live closer to a NAPA then anyone, so I usually go with WIX or NAPA.
