Well, it is with deepest regret that I think that I must sell my truck. I just don't like having the auto trans. for all I do I want a manual, with 5 spds. I have thought long and hard about doing a transmission swap. but It seems that the cost would be far more than selling and buying a manual with the 5 sp.. my truck is not a spring chicken with 215K . I think I could find a lower milage f250 for the less or equile to what Iwill sell my truck for if I factor in the cost of putting in a new trany.one other factor is I want my new truck to have thr 3.55 in sted of the 4.10 I have now/
so the truck I have is a 97 f350. cc 4x4 e4od 4.10 It Kelly BB @ $8300. in fair condition. I have some up grades , new turbo, 8 new injectors, things lile that, the body in not in great shape but I think $8k is a little optomistic
the turck I would look at is f 250or 350 super cab or cc 5sp 3,55 4x4
I figure $2-3k for a trany swap. if I do it my self so I can put that twards the cost of a new truck.
So my questions are:
1 what do you all think?
2 what will I realy loose by going to a f-250? as far as I can tell the only real differeces are the lift blocks and front axil.
3 is there any way I can tell by the VIN what gearing a truck has?
4 do I dare look at a dodge??
Thanks for andy thoughs J

1 what do you all think? I think 8K depending on the body is about right. maybe a touch low but it should sell fast that way.
2 what will I realy loose by going to a f-250? as far as I can tell the only real differeces are the lift blocks and front axil. My first truck was a 250 now I have a 350 and would never go back to the 250 with TTB front axle. Straight axles drive smoother and nicer. Not to mention alot less tire wear and the ball joints last longer. I wouldn't go with a 250 unless you really want a crew cab short box. then I would have to swap the axles.
3 do I dare look at a dodge?? No you don't dare. You may look for a cummins to put in your Ford but you do not, I repeat do not want a Dodge!
Thanks for andy thoughs J
Do you have any pics of the body damage? is it dents or rust?
I'd stick with the Ford, the cummins is nice but you sacrafice for it. I've seen a few nice 97 250's ex cabs for around the price range your looking at. Where are you located?
I can notice a difference with my 5 speed and 3.55's compaired to my parents auto w/4.10's. On the long hills I'm shifting alot more than the auto does to keep the same speed but on the highway I'm getting alot better mileage
