After replacing the rear of the drivers side mirror (power, heated, signal) I've got a problem reinstalling the actual mirror. It's connected via two electrical connections near the bottom. I can allign the three white swivel post and push it onto the crusiform. However I can't get the servo motor to connect to the rear of the mirror. I found this thread/post after a search but it doesn't answer the question about the compressed posts. Any thoughts?
"Actually the two threaded posts that go into the servo holes are split and splay apart. You need to compress them together and then push them through a rubber boot gasket. Then there are 3 other posts that slide into guide holes and in the middle is a post with a swivel ball (the crusiform) that snaps into place. The problem is you can't just push the spayeded threaded posts because you have to compress them, and I can't get my fingers in there to do that."
I have a printout in my shop with the detailed installation instructions from Ford for replacing the mirror itself - I'll try and scan it and attach it to this thread tomorrow.
Ok, I hope this works. I scanned the four pages of the installation instructions. Ignore that it says to '04 only - it covers up to '07 style - or it is supposed to as these instructions are in the box with my replacement mirror that I have to install on a set of telescopic '07 mirrors tomorrow or next weekend.
These are saved as jpeg files but you should be able to open them and print them on 8.5 X 11 paper.
Well I did mine today and I followed the instructions I posted exactly as printed and had no problems getting the mirror installed.
I think the problem you are having is that you are not putting the jackscrews into the motor first (that way you compress them before you put the mirror in place). Then when you press the mirror onto the main base (after heating the back side of the mirror to soften the plastic) you can push the mirror left to click into the top of the jack screw and then push it downwards to connect it to the top of the other jack screw. Hard to explain but the instructions and order you do things in are dead on. Worked no problem for me - just spent a bit of time getting the rubber dust boots back in place correctly after putting the jack screws into the motor housings.
