Need help comparing 00 to 08 mirrors

I new here and this site has really helped me with my X.

I'm considering doing the 08 mirror upgrade. The problem I have is that with my 102" wide enclosed car trailer behind the X, I can't see the right side of the trailer even with the mirror fully extended. I can see down the left side without issue but on the right I can't really see anything down the side of the trailer.

Does the 08 mirror extend further than my 00 mirror?

The 08 mirrors are big then the 1998.5 up to 2007 mirrors. Ive never used them before, but they say that you can see alot more out of ur mirrors trailor wise. Well worth the upgrade as people are saying. Im thinking about doing it to since they are bolt on.

I have the 08 mirrors in my excursion. You can see a lot more than the 05 mirors. Its well worth the money. There are pics in my galery,
Nick

Interesting. Today I just ordered trailer tow mirrors for my 05 X, assuming that I would be able to see around my 102" wide race trailer. Is that not the case? Do I need to return my brand new mirrors to 1stfordparts as soon as they get here? Are the '08 mirrors actually wider/larger?

Well all, here is what a bit of research has uncovered.

The 08 mirrors, while having a much larger viewing area, have exactly the same projection as the earlier mirrors.

Both sets are a bit funky in their design as they are not equal, side to side. The driver mirror, from the glass closest to the front plastic, projects 19". The right side projects 18". This is why I can't see the side of my trailer. I'm fairly tall and have my seat adjusted pretty far back. This additional mirror angle could explain why others can see the side and I can't.

The 08' mirrors are still on my 'to do' list as they have much greater viewing area and will help me despite their equal projection. The big advantage is their larger spot mirror. Plus...IMO, they look really good.

Thanks to dfuser for all his help

Thanks everyone for the input. It sounds like I *may* be able to see the side of my trailer with the '05 mirror. I guess there's no real way to say for sure, other than to put the mirrors on and hook up to the trailer. I hate to do that only to find out it didn't work.
