Bully Dog? Something I can toggle from HP to Torque to Economy?
Marty
Bully dog does make a tuner for the gas engines. I think they just started making them last year, not too sure about that, but I know they have them out there.
Gas and Diesel are so different. SCT makes a tuner for the Gas and it works great. I have personally used them on the 5.4 F150. Let me know if you need help with one.
SuperChips makes a tuner also. It doesn't make a world of difference, but in "Tow-Performance" mode, the tranny sure does shift smoother. And in straight "Performance" mode, it has a noticeable difference in pep, but nothing that's gonna break speed records. Mine is model #1715, and it's for the 99 - 04 5.4L. 05+ is a different engine and different model.
Oh, and "Economy" and "Ford Product" ludicrous...maybe not. "Economy" and "SuperDuty"...yes! You shouldn't even use economy and SuperDuty in the same breath.
Do they make a setup for the 5.4L like they do for the Diesels?
IE: Bully Dog? Something I can toggle from HP to Torque to Economy?
Is using Economy in the Same sentence with a Ford product ludicrous? Will it start a pradox?!

SCT doesn't offer a unit off the shelf for your 01'. You would have to have a dealer flash a blank tuner for your truck. Diablosport makes a tuner which will work for your truck off the shelf.
SCT or Diablosport are the best with the most adjustable parameters.
That said don't expect much power increase especially on 87. You MAY be able to pick up 30hp and tq. running on premium fuel. SCT has a fuel economy tune for gassers that leans out the air/fuel ratio at low and off-throttle situations however IMO it isn't worth using. I read you can pick up about .3 mpg in a 4.6l with the economy tune, running lean isn't worth the little mpg IMO.
There are many adjustments that can be made with tuners other than just adding extra power and thats the main reason I bought mine.
edjunior, is the Flashpaq the tuner you used? if so, what kind of mpg improvements did you notice?
Thanks!
No, mine is not the Flashpaq. I got a little better gas mileage, but it was certainly nothing to write home about. In the Tow-Perf mode, I made one short trip with the TT and got around 10.5 or so mpg. This was up from around 9.5 I was averaging. But keep in mind, this was a short trip, and certainly not what I would call a definitive test. Also keep in mind with the "Performance" and "Tow-Perf" tunes, in order to get the best results, you have to run premium fuel, preferably 93 octane. Most places I see have the higher octane gas, especially the 93 octane, jacked up at least 20 cents over regular. So will the savings in mpg offset the cost of the higher priced gas? Not likely. If you're looking for the performance, in addition to a little boost in mpg, it might be worth it, but it'll be something you have to figure up.

Unfortunately, if you want to max your performance from that tuner, you will also have to use the 93 octane in order to get max benefit from it. I imagine 93 will go down in some areas a few cents once the holiday traffic goes on thru and we are into the next year.
