Smile Ue/h

Purchased an X3 programmer from Matt, it arrived quickly, 2-3 days. Pulled strategy from truck and sent him, received tunes later that night (ASE, UE/H, UE/T). First one I loaded was the UE/H. Truck bucked and surged so bad I thought there was something wrong so I attempted to load it again. This time chose “yes”at user options just to see what was there. Unit locked up on an out of memory error before programming began. Didn’t think this was a Spartan problem so I called SCT. Told them what happened and they thought it might have been the tune and asked me to send it to them so I did. They duplicated the error, found out it was not caused from the tune, error was created because unit would not release memory when using the user options. They told me how to format the unit and re-load the image to start fresh. Said the next firmware update would correct the memory issue. They also said the tune I sent them was not based on the strategy I gave them and that may cause problems also. They took Matt’s UE/H tune and applied it to my strategy and sent it back along with their own tune to try. In the meantime I ran the UE/T tune with no problems until last week while waiting for a tow tune with exhaust braking I loaded the UE/H tune that SCT re-worked just to see how it would do. I’ll tell ya, it was nothing like the original tune Matt sent me, no bucking/surging issues, drivability greatly improved, good fuel mileage, great response and increased power.

Not sure how important using the correct strategy is but in my case it really mattered as far as the UE/H went. From what I understand Matt uses a common strategy for various PCM’s and mine was included in that group. After running the UE/H based on my strategy I’m not sure using a generic strategy for a custom tune is a good idea.

My truck is an 07 with a strategy of VXCF4X3, I’m curious if others that had problems with this tune had the same strategy. I let Matt know of my findings last week but haven’t heard back from him yet and still waiting on the tow tunes. I’ve read he s&!t canned the UE/H file but if it’s just a matter of applying to the correct strategy it might be worth resurrecting. Also tried the General Economy tune and not impressed with response or performance, again, might be a strategy issue. Still haven't tried the SCT tune.

At the point in time the Ultra Highway Economy files were released, we were using a set of three different strategy codes to "standardize" the economy benefit from it, since the FICM for all 2005-2007 trucks utilize nearly identical addressing.

There were several issues with both Ultra Economy files, some of which were caused by strategy and some of which were not. I don't feel comfortable marketing something with known drivability problems; and such is why those tunes went in the trashcan.

We are no longer using a commonized strategy for any tunes; those tunes were the only ones which utilized such and that is no longer current practice; for reasons such as what you experienced.

found neutral again last night on the freeway. weird thing is that is was the exact same place on the freeway that it happened the other time.
this was the hybrid file from evan , wonder if it is the same thing that caused the old ultra comp files to do it ?

Matt,

Sorry to rock the boat, but could i get a set of tunes based on my strategy to try. The UE/H worked great after it was applied to the correct strategy and am curious how the others would do, and how about putting some exhaust braking in the tow tunes.
So what your saying is if strategy is pulled after tune is loaded, it should be the same as stock, which verifies tunes were applied to the correct strategy. Just asking cause truck shows a different strategy after tunes are loaded.

Question

sounds like the incorrect stratedgy, I am using the newer general economy now.

I had decent luck w/ the UEH file and only concern was in and out of converter lockup every time I let off the APP.. now it is done.. what are you getting for mileage from it??
