Front End Shake
Now I have my 40" mud tires on, and when I drove it for the first time, the whole car started shaking after I hit a bump and I thought that my tire had come off or something. When I stop or get down to about 5 mph the shaking stops, and it only starts again when I hit a bump going over about 25mph.
I replaced the bushings on the passenger side, and now it is more noticeable on the drivers side, but the driver's side was fine before.
It is not the brakes, I just redid them.
No, the 40" tires aren't balanced, the tire shop couldn't handle them, any ideas on where to get them balanced? truck stop maybe?
If one side is wore out the other side is too, it has been exposed to the same amount
of oxidation, stress, etc. Stuff that has to do with brakes and suspension (safety)
items should be replaced at the same time. The bushings in the TTB pivots could
have some slop in them, Jack it up taking the weight of the front and with a big pry
bar see how much the left/right beams pivots can be moved, If you have a buddy
with the same front end jack his up and see what he has for movement. Having a
lift and bigger tires is an extra duty service schedule requirement for all systems in
your truck so change out the fluids sooner(esp. tranny and diffs) And that goes
more so for the front end parts, the extra forces exerted by the tires makes for more
wear on those bushings!! I had bad bushings on my shocks that let if I hit a bump
the front end would oscillate just that 1/4 inch or so it was pretty annoying I blamed
it on everything from out of round tires to balance to bad rad arm bushings to the
TTb pivot bushings, One day I looked as I was jacking up the truck and saw the
axle drop and then the shock caught up to it a second later, So I tried it again and
again. I took it off and it was ay bigger than the bolt. New bushings got rid of that
annoying little vibration. Daystar sells poly bushings I think they are $5.00 or so or
just go for a set of these http://www.eshocks.com/bil_ORvh.asp?...=All&SubChar=Q
They are going to be my next and last set of shocks since you can rebuild and revalve
them, Change the valving for conditions or change oil weight to really fine tune them
for different wheeling locations or weather even!!
moisture in it!! Or else that stuff will stick together and make the problem worse.
Try to find a good 4x4 shop with a strobeiscopic balancer and that trues the tires
if they are out of round, You can balance atire with weights all you want if it has
too much rubber on one area of the tread it will still vibrate at speed!! It needs to
be trued especially big meats like yours. How do you store your tires when you are
not using them? You should make a rack to keep the tire in the air that supports the tire by the rim center hole if you keep them mounted to rims, to prevent any flat spot or else you end
up with D shaped tires. If that is the case you need to get out and either do a
couple of burnouts or drive it for a good distance to get the tire heated up.
