Hello eveyone, I have a 03 S/Crew and the blinkers stopped working. The emerg. flashers still work. I replaced the relay under the dash and they worked for about 2 seconds. The fuse is still good so it must either be the multiswitch on the colume or there is a control box somewhere which controls the turn signals. Anyone have this b/4 or have any ideas on how to diagnose? Thanks
There's a 90% chance it's the multifunction switch. These are notorious for going out on these trucks. Some people have had great luck by just taking the MF switch apart and cleaning the contacts...but others have had to replace it.
Mine works when it wants to. Although it works fine when I manually hold the switch (you have to hold it in the position just before it 'clicks' into place and holds itself).
Do you think it would cause the relay to short out? This seems to be what is happening. What I have found on the net is the switch loses contact and stops working. I didn't think that would cause the relay to go out.
I installed a new one and it worked for a few seconds then stopped. I am going to stop and get one on the way to work this evening and replace it again. If it works again and the n stops that will confirm it is shorting out. Can you clean the mulit switch or do you have to replace it? The flasher relay under the dash on the right side of the driver side dash
Have the emergency flashers stopped working? The emergency flashers and the turnsignals use the same relay. Since the emergency flashers work, then it has to be the multifunction switch. As noted by ATC, some FTE members have had luck in cleaning the switch but, this switch is rather complex and it has to be disassembled to be cleaned. I would suggest replacing it with a new one and then try cleaning up the old to save as a backup in the event that you have this trouble again. Good luck!
Thank John, I am a shade tree electrician so I didn't know if a relay could have one side work and the other side not work (emerg work/blinkers not work) I will replace the multi switch and see what happenes. Thanks for the help.
