With the fender mounted turn signals, I have seen them on many of the larger (F-2 and up) trucks. I don't think they were factory, but a very common aftermarket part. In fact originals usually fetch a high price on ebay
I don't really have anything to post, but here's my F-3 as purchased about a year ago.......
what's the deal with the lights on the fenders? i've not seen these on many trucks.......
I have a 48 f-3 with the same fender turn signals. It is a parts truck. My 49 f-1 had no turn signals on it.Also trying to get rid of the f-3,still has some good parts, front axle etc.
My 56 F600 has a set of these and I am glad they are not on any of my others---I think they look cluncky and stick out too much---but they serve their purpose!!! Bill
Yeah, the turn signals were an add on option for the pre-55 trucks. They had to be installed at the dealer, at least from what I can get from this Ford book. The 55 had the option of signals in the park lights, and dual tail lights.
Hi, I recently bought a 53 f 350 with a 9' box. It came from N. Dakota and is almost completely rust free. It has 17" budd type 6 lug wheels with a spacer like a front on the rear. It's all stock, from literature I have seen, has a stock fh v8 and runs like a champ. Paint is original, all i did was the brakes. It was owned by a crop dusting service at the Minot, N. Dakota airport. This is the 3rd one ton vintage ford pickup Ive owned. First was a 38, then a 51 f3, but I like this one best and the cab is so roomy and you gotta love how huge it is with that 9' box. Anyone else have one of these?
I will be receiving my fathers 55 F-350 express soon. I always liked the F-350 express trucks, don't see too many of them, and they are a great work horse.
The '53 and '54 single wheel trucks used dually wheels with spacers, the 55 used standard styled wheels instead of the type you have. Does it still have the 8,000 Gross plate on the bed filler behind the passenger side? Timken split housing, with 5.14:1 axle ratio? Is it a deluxe cab, or standard cab?

This is a great idea for a thread...hope it works out as planned. I have a 1949 F-3, Just go the flatty 6 to turn over so things are going good. Want to make it a flatbed, so i can use it as a hay truck at work. If i have any questions i will surely come here and ask.
yall mention that the turn signals are dealer installed, why then does my factory gauge cluser have the turn arrows in it? Just curious as I have always wondered about that, and why do the larger trucks only have 2 cab lights and when did they start using 5?
I just saw something about the cab lights. It became law for trucks over one ton sometime back to have 5 roof lights. From what I am understanding, the radio and turn signals came packaged on the seat of the new truck, and the dealer installed them or put them in stock depending on the customers order. I saw literature that discussed this a while back, I think my dad has the book that it was in. Anyhow, from what I am seeing, turn indicators were an option, and not standard, and some trucks had the add on lights (mounted on fenders) and some had in the parking lights lites. All the trucks have the places to accomodate factory installed signals, but they all don't have them. If I can find the info, I will share it for sure. Good question, that one is gonna take some investigating to figure Ford's way of thinking out for sure.
Another good looking old gal on the auction block....280164821007. '53 F-500 fire truck. South Dakota, $2200 current price, no reserve. Judging by the photos, I'd say it's worth every penny, if it doesn't go too high. Looks to be really solid, and pretty complete.
