The unofficial medium duty thread

I guess, since the F-3/350 thru F-6/600 trucks are medium duty, then I will make a category for them as well. There are many med. duty owners, and it would be nice to consolidate the good info into one easy to find thread. Post your info in here guys and gals. Part numbers you have found through your restoration, info, tips and tricks, etc., etc. These trucks are not the same as the much more popular and common F-1/100 and F-2/250 trucks, so your info will be useful to other med. duty owners. Have started one for Big Jobs as well. Admin, if enough response, can you sticky this one too? Please.

Why not include just F3/350 -F6/600 with the F7/700/8/800?

Although I think Medium duty is really F4 and above...

wmjoe1953 10-25-2007 02:26 PM

I was considering the F-4 as the start, but the F-350 is comparable in GVW as the earlier F-4. The F-3 thru F-6 are not heavy duty like the Big Job.

Man, I guess the medium duty owners are as few and far between as the Big Job owners

1952 F6 Dump Truck

is my current toy. In process, I am working on the mechanical before tackling the bodywork. I just felt it calling to me, sitting all by itself in that storage lot!

We are here! I have had my f600 for 13years! Didn't realize that until I typed it. All that is left from the truck I bought, is the frame, axles, and front fenders. Eveerything else I have replaced over the years.

I am with ya ---but lonely like the Big Job site.....Bill

I don't have any medium duties right now, but will have my dads '55 F-350 express soon. Do have access to a '53 F-600 in the area. Still have a few parts from a '55 F-350 flatbed I stripped

I have an 1952 F-3, thats titled as an F-6, but don't really have any significant info to post here at the moment

wmjoe1953 10-25-2007 09:30 PM

Post it when you do. I would like to keep this and the Big Job thread on the front page for a while, so that people that something other than the ever common half ton have a thread to look to for finding answers that pertain to their particular truck. We, those of us with something other than a half ton, all know too well that very little info about the little trucks really pertains to our rigs at all. Those of us with the Big Jobs know this even more.

Technical data anyone? I will add some now, from knowledge, will add from the Ford book later, I can only verify info from 48-55, so if anyone has 56 up, put it in. 239 CID motor is a Flathead, and a Y-block (most of us already know this, but it's surprising how many do not). The '53 F-350 to F-600 recieved a 239 flat head V-8 this is the only V motor available for this year in these sized trucks. The F350 thru F-600 6-cylinder option was the 215 OHV. In 54, the flathead was replaced by the Y-block in the same CID. The F-600 would of come with a 256, or a 239 Y. The Six was increased to 223 CID. It can be found in any of the F-350 to F-600 trucks for 54-55. This is enough for now, will add more later.

Dealer added signals? A lot of trucs did not come with signals, the dealership added them after the truck was purchased.

I'll post wishfully. I'm scrounging for cash to buy a '56 C-600 I just learned about locally. I've been hunting for years for just the right one and this one, though I havent' seen it, sounds to be the one.
If you see me picking up cans on I-44, honk and wave!

wmjoe1953 10-26-2007 02:14 PM

We'll be sure and throw a few cans out for you...lol.
