cherry bomb extreme...

anyone run one of these mufflers on a 4.9? single to dual (but the dual would only be for a few feet till it turned out in front of the rear tire...

i was about to order a glass pack and then i saw this muffler at pep boys and its only 19.99. didnt know how it would sound compared to a glass pack and compared to straight pipe...

also, off topic... what cat, 2.5", does anyone recomend running? i plan on just running the front cat and elimtaing the second one...

thanks!

you run a single or dual glass pack set up?

these cherry bomb extremes are hollow, so i have a feeling i might get a tinny sound becuase of no packing in the muffler.... any thoughts?

I put a chambered pipe muffler on my Bronco and it sounds a bit tinny when I'm standing on its tail. More like an old Jaguar than Jap.

All performance cats are about the same, I found one on eBay for ~$40.

i run duals because i have a header. And yes 3500 is very high for me also unless i am pulling something heavy and have to make that next shift.

A single high-flow 3 way cat will replace the dual cats. Use a generic turbo muffler which can be had for about $20 and pipe your system 2 1/2" throughout and you will get good flow and a decent tone idle through high rpm.

harte3,
what is a 3-way cat? i heard 2.5" was the way to go, but then i read to use like a 2" glass pack. and turbo mufflers... arnt they quite? i like the volume that i am getting from the straight pipe, and the tractor sound is unique (haha), i just dont like the back fire like popping on a high rev or deceleration...

http://www.cherrybomb.com/products-front.asp They got some sound clips on here
and check you tube they got a bunch of exhaust clips. If you look at the extreme it
has a baffle that makes one pipe longer than the other to eliminate droning(and
cancel high frequency) and if you use a different length on one or a different diameter say a 2" and a 21/4" will help eliminate weird harmonics. Go with cherry bomb and get away from the magnaflow
and other supposed cool mufflers everyone always tells people to get, Be different
run the original performance mufflers!! I have CB glass packs on my bronce one is
2" and the other is 21/4 and my pipe for the small one is 17/8 and shorter and the other is 2" and longer since it is the left bank one and comes over to the passenger
side. I don't get any droning and no ricey sound whatsoever!! It is loud when I stomp
it but deep and mellow when cruising. If you put the packs on backwards they can be
louder it depends how they are installed!!

I cut out my 2nd cat and put a single in/out cb on mine with the tailpipe exiting before the rear tire. Its only loud if i step on it but not quite as loud as my 4 banger ranger with a cb glasspack that also exits in front of the rear tire.

The new cats will cover all three areas of the emissions spectrum...does the same that two cats did before plus contemporary cats flow good compared to the originals. Any muffler shop will have them or if you DIY try Summit Racing.
I have a Turbo type muffler with the tail pipe out in the stock configuration. Nice tone without rap or popping...a definite difference over stock but not ratty or too loud to me...My wife thinks it is too loud...but what do wives know? LOL

i ran a strait pipe and a turnout infront of the rear right tire, it sounds really good for $17 worth of pipe from autozone. i drive a 95 f150 with efi, it mite sound different with a carburated engine?

well i have an efi too... and i kinda like the straight pipe sound... but i need an muffler for inspection plus the straight pipe has that "popping" noise on the downside of a high rev or when downshifting.... just want to eliminate that
