Hey everyone, My rig is in a long term parking lot right now.(i am underway right now). I disconnected the battery so it won't die on me before i get back. I know this resets the computer. When i get back, is there anything different i have to do so the computer can re-calibrate itself? It is speed density. Any info would be appreciated.
Nope. Nothing special when you reset a computer. It might run a bit rough initially, but nothing special has to be done.
I don't know where you're at, but if you're anywhere that gets cold you might consider taking the battery and putting it on an automatic battery tender. Also, you might want to pull the plugs and toss some motor oil (clean!) in there to prevent your rings from rusting up. (turn the engine over a couple times sans coil wire to lube all of 'em up)
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Dec-02 AT 01:58 PM (EST)]Thanks Whittey, My truck is in Southern Cal. right now. Won't get too cold down there. As for putting oil down the spark plug holes, how much do you put down in there? The truck sits at most two months at a given time.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Dec-02 AT 02:03 PM (EST)]Err, i'm not quite sure... If I were to measure it, i'd say somewhere around a tablespoon or so... Your best bet might be to get a real fogging oil for that specific purpose because it comes in a spray and you won't lose as much to the dish in your pistons as you might just dumping in oil. A 13oz spray fogging oil retails for <$6 and i'm sure you can get it for less (my employee price is $2.85).

[edit] You might want to think about some stabil for the fuel tank too. And i'd fill it up with fuel too (if you're parking it in a lot for 2months you might want to get a locking gas cap too).
Whittey, do you know where i can get some of that fogging oil? I haven't seen Stabil, but i haven't really looked either. The lot is a fenced in compound (with barbed wire on top of the fence) and the owner of the lot is the only way to unlock the gate. I have one locking gas cap. Previous owner took of the second one and lost it. The front tank is dry. I have too replace the sending unit when i get back. The rear tank is 3/4 i think.
Any place that sells to seasonal equipment should have both fogging oil and stabil (lawn mowers, boats, etc). Ever go back in the spring to cut your lawn (or do y'all do that year round down south?) and one-pull to start your equipment? Its a beautiful thing....
The oil prevents rust in your cylinders and the stabil keeps your gas up to snuff. Both good items to have. Stabil is also pretty darn cheap too.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Dec-02 AT 04:23 PM (EST)]Just hook the battery back up and drive, The computer will need some time running to figure itself out((Re-Calibrate it's self))..
Unhooking the Battery is an excellent idea, And I would DEFINITALLY get some STA-BIL fuel stabilizer in the tank(s). I would also FILL THE TANKS COMPLETELY to keep any air out, This will prevent condensation in the fuel tanks!!
We preserved equiptment while I was in the service and we would put 20cc of Marvel Mystery oil into each cylinder, disabled the ignition and crank them over for 15 seconds.
Your storage period (2 Months) is hardley long enough to go this step for. Also, if your truck has CATALYTIC CONVERTERS, The oil MAY clog them up after several winterizings
There is an oil fogger used by outboard enthusiast's, Just spray into the intake while shutting it down...
