Hi im changing the head gasket on a 1961 223 ci can any one tell me if there is a coolant drain plug on the block any were, ive drained the the radiader and what would come out of the block,but when i was changing the freeze plugs i noticed there was still coolant in the block? One more question didnt they put dowl guide pins in this block to help line up the head this head weighs a ton lol

I worked on one of those heads 20 yrs ago and I've replaced the gasket on my 88 300 and if memory serves me correctly neither has any kind of guide to line it up. Its good to have a helper that can watch to make sure the gasket doesn't slip as you lower the head.

Save that gasket!!!

Get a couple of old head bolts, Cut the heads off of them and use them for DOWELS to line up that head... It will save you a head gasket!!! Sliding that head around will cause you problems!!!

There should be what appears to be a pipe plug with a square head on the passenger's side of the block above the starter. That will be your block drain.

Thanks for the help guys i sure do appreciate it.Im a mopar man by heart but i just couldnt pass up this ol truck it's pretty cool lookin and i believe it's the only one like it in town. Thanks
