Engine Failsafe Mode

My '05 F150 S-crew went into failsafe mode this afternoon. I've owned my truck since new and have had regular scheduled maintainence. I've never had any problems before today. I had been driving about 30 mins. averaging about 45 mph with the occasional stop for traffic lights, radio on, lights on, a/c off. I was doing about 45 when the system dropped into failsafe. After going about 1/4 mi. to a safe place to pull over, I shut down the engine and checked oil level (it was fine). It cranked without problem and I drove about 10 mi. by back roads to home with out any problems. The truck has <56k miles and is strictly stock. The dash guages all read at normal operating positions (but how accurate/reliable are they?). The check engine light never came on. I do not have a tuner so don't know if any codes are registered. Thanks guys. I have always found yall to be a wealth of useful info.
