Yes if you have a small block pattern C-6 it will work behind any 302, there are also 385 and FE series big block C-6s and they will not work. I don't think years matter I am pretty sure the C-6 did not come out untill after the 5 bolt small blocks were gone in 1964 correct me if I'm wrong and 302s weren't around till 68. You will also need to find the correct flexplate.

Sure, and Ford offered a C6/302 combo on 1978/79 F100/150's.
Before anyone says I'm full of ____ here's the reference: 1973/79 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog ~ Transmission Application Chart ~ Section A70, pages 15 thru 17.
C6: C = decade = 1960's / 6 = 1966. Introduced in the fall of 1965 on the new 1966 models. (C4 = 1964)
The 302 engine was introduced in the spring of 1968.
