Help buying a 79 Explorer?

I am looking at buying a 79 Explorer Custom F100
V8 - 302CI
2BBL Carb
2WD
Auto C-6 Tranny
Power Steering
Power Brakes
Air Conditioning
84,XXX Original Miles
Imaculate original interior (except the radio which is aftermarket)
Near imaculate exterior (a few paint blemishes)
No rust
Under hood is a little dirty

The guy wants $5000... I have not been able to find out too much about pricing, do you guys think this is a good deal???

Thanks, Paul

$5000 would be steep here in colorado for a 4x2 with only a 302....4x4 would be ideal, and a bigger engine would be also.....Around $2500 maybe, if the body was perfect...
just my opinion

Seems steep for my neck of the woods too.....reasons are:

Too small a motor to demand that price
only 2 wheel drive
IMHO you could find a nice 4x4 with a 360, 351, 400, 460 or whatever for that price

good luck regardless of what you decide

yeah, steep for southern ohio too, the average price for a good one around here that is 4wd is about 2500, but almost every truck around here needs a bed though.

Too steep in Northern Ohio also. I'd pass on that and look for a better deal. Just my opinion.

Well think of it this way - I got my truck for free last year, but it took $3,500 of work to get it in the condition of the truck you describe.

A little caution about the 302. If you plan on doing any towing, I'd steer clear of this engine. It struggles just to move the truck around and with a 2,000lb. tent trailer behind it, my foot is on the floor a lot. It is a tough and reliable engine, though.
