Can anyone help with motor mount torque specs for an '50 F1? Also, any tips on installing to make job easier.
While I'm at it, adjusting my fan and generator belts is a pain. I've read the manual but it seems more differcult than necessary. Any tips?
Thanks
I've never worried about torque - turn them until they stop on the shoulder, then push the cotter pin thru the castellated nut at the nearest location. You can back the nut off to the nearest hole if you need to.
edit: forgot to mention about adjusting the gen/fan belts. Here's how I do it.
Place a 2x4 across the fender lips. Lift the gennie up as best you can and snug up the nut to hold it in place. Sling a light chain around the gennie and up and over the 2x4 and fasten as short as you can. Stab a pry bar under the chain on top of the 2x4, loosen the nut on the mount and push down on the pry bar and tighten the nut.
Easier done than said. Remember to keep a 1" deflection in the belt. Not too tight or you'll fry your waterpump and fan bearings.
The belts are one of the worst jobs on these fat-fendered trucks. It was a decent system when the engines were in cars with fold-open hoods.
First thing is to understand what's what. The gennie plate has to be adjusted first. Then the fan. You can usually get a screwdriver wedged under the gen to lift it. You DON'T want the belts very tight at all, just enough so there isn't any squealing. The only way I've ever gotten the fan lifted is by using a real long pry bar under the fan bracket and against the timing cover. Don't exert a lot of pressure!
If it's any consolation, I had my belts on/off 4 times in one day a couple weeks ago. I can do it in my sleep now!
