4R100 question

I had my tranny flushed on the SD @ 30K. Now I'm approaching 60K, and thinking of doing a good old fashioned tranny service.

Is there a drain plug on the torque converter? Is there a real advantage to swapping over to synthetic fluid? I pull my car trailer once or twice a month with a total weight of 8000 to 9000 lbs (trailer and vehicle).

What year is your truck? Early one had a drain plug, later ones didn't.

Synthetics are great for those high(er) heat situations. Using it won't hurt anything but maybe your wallet.

Drain plugs were eliminated early in the 2002 model year. Any torque converter built after August, 2001, does not have a drain plug.

Here's how you can do it yourself. It has a section on changing the filter, too, if you want to.

I use Mark's method. But I do deviate slightly from his instructions. Rather than running until I see air bubbles in the clear line, I use a bucket that is marked at 3 quarts. I pump out 3 quarts, then add 3 more. I repeat until the fluid is clean. I personally have no problem with following his instructions exactly, but it made my assistant uncomfortable
