Performance.....problem?

All right I got my truck and have some issues... if you can call em that.

One my way home from work one night I met a guy who was trying to show his nissan murano off to his girlfriend. I thought what the heck ill punch it see what it can do. well I caught up and passed him. he was giving that engine the gas and still couldnt keep up. I thought it was odd that a 280 hp suv would lose to my truck. (92 f-150 5.0 exhaust and intake and minor ignition upgrades e4od 2wd 3.55 single cab long box) so thought nothin of it. this saturday I was at the lights with a white 99 chev who thought he was gonna pick on the old truck. so I gave it gas. and slowly I passed him.... so my question is. HOW?

how does it work my truck inferior to both vehicles wiped the floor with them?

I am no complaining. but I cannot understand how my standard 5.0 could do it.

You probably have more torque and better gearing then those two. I bet that if you gave them time to get up to the higher rpms where they would make power, you would have been passed. Also, fords have always had good 1 and second gears on their manual trannies, allowing them to accelorate pretty fast in those gears. I dont know thats my thoughts.

He's not running the M5, he listed E4OD. On a 92? Didn't know the E4OD was available on the '92. Didn't think E4OD showed up in our trucks until '94 along with MAF intakes. Dunno, though, perhaps some retrofitting went on in his 92. On top of that, I don't think you're gonna speed shift an M5 and expect it to stay together either. M5's just don't shift that good. They're for truckin, not racin.

The 3.55's will give ya good torque at the axles, yet give ya good speed ratio too. I got the 3.08's in mine, and it won't hardly keep up with a VW off the line. HOWEVER, once I get the rubber bands tight, it'll go stomping by most anything. It's useless on a short run, but don't even think about running away on the interstate. My '92 has no speed limiter either. Dunno how fast it'll go, but I am certain that it's a lot faster than I want to go.

Heh, I have an M5OD and I speed shift like a ****.. it works well. Lol. I agree with the lower speed to high statement. My truck rips through the low gears but the resistance of a brick wall doesn't help at speed. Heh.

At the bottom he said my standard 5.0 and I mistook that for him having a manual tranny, but he meant is engine is stock. And I also didnt mean he could speed shift, I meant that the manual gearboxes use up less HP.
So anyway, you say e4od, do you mean AOD? Both 4 sp overdrive trannies. The AOD is non electronic and the E4 is.

My 1990 has an E4OD factory.

If the 5.0 in your 92 is factory, it should rate 185 horsepower at the flywheel like the one in my 93.

Honestly I don't know how you beat the Murano. If it's an early one it's pushing 220hp, not 280, but that 3.5L is a smooth runner and has plenty low down.

Maybe your truck is magical or something.

The engine itself is stock tho. Its what came from the factory. Not a stroker, not bored out no aftermarket cam or heads, at least from the description. But like flareside said, dont think about it just be happy about it.

Perhaps, the driver of both the Murano and the 99 Chevy had inferior drivers? I know hardware makes a difference. But the loose nut behind the wheel can sometimes be the deciding factor.

What is the issue ? 302s are always underdogs, but yet they still get it done.

Maybe that Murano is rated at 220hp, but that does not mean that every Murano out there is pushing that same 220hp. What if it was out of tune, slightly plugged exhaust or whatever?
