Ive been reading alot of these 10k mods and such and was wondering which would be the best for my 96PSD. I got gauges on the way and was thinkin about a chip but then became interested in these mods. which is the best 10k, 14.7k .....22k..? also, what is the problems with the edge evolution in these powerstrokes? ive kinda learned already how to do the mod, but is it just in one series or how does that work for the 22k..
I have no problem with my EDGE Evolution, I do however only use th 60 HP setting as I don't like the loss of the rpm limiter with 80 and the 100 hp setting, could be the cost? that I dont know as mine was part of a deal with a set of tires and wheels (less than 1000 miles on them) all of it for half of the cost of the wheels.
If you go with the chip, you won't need to do the 10k (or other ##k) mods. The chip will take care of that for you.
I don't have a chip, but I am preparing to do one of the ##k mods. I haven't decided on 10k, 14.7k, 15.6k, etc. I don't have gauges yet either, so I'm not sure I want to do a 10k mod without guages.
Guages are always great to have, the more the merrier, well as long as they all do something. hahaha.
Cheep way to go is the reisistor mod.
14.7 seems the best idea from what i've been reading, but if your worried at all, i'd go with the 10k mod then. Guess it really depends on the mileage you have also. if the 10k isn't enough, you can try a 4.7 inline afterwards. and if that isn't enough, swap it out for another 10k.
Just work your way up i guess i'd say. =)
Not that resistors are expensive. but if you slap 20k on there, and it doesn't do so well, you gotta take it out and go get a 10k blah blah...
I have gauges and Im using the 14.7 K mod and what i've been reading, there is no problem, but it depends on your right foot. so be careful and install the gauges ASAP to be OK. BTW the 16.5 K mod doesnt work fine for my truck.
And WELCOME to

Get rid of the restrictive down pipe. It may cause you to burn up the turbo or pistons or both. You can run a 4 or 5 inch all the way with no cat converter or muffler.
4" or 5" will NOT fit in these trucks... unless you're talking about post-downpipe... and i don't get how you guys have trouble with any temps with just a ##k mod and no injectors or anything... with stage 2s without a chip i couldn't break 1000 from 0-55... with the chip in the big tune it was a little higher and a lot faster from 0-55ish... with my intercooler it's now tough to ever get the EGTs up..
I can hit 1250 getting on the e-way. I have a 3.5" DP w/4" all the way out, dead kitty, see through muffler, 6637, stock injectors & turbo, no chip (maybe, never looked) or IPC mod. I have checked my gage against an infrared therm... it's good. Others have claimed high EGT's with just an IPC mod.

i guess it's the chip thats keeping it low?? and i've never had trouble with EGTs.... my truck doesn't run like a dream, it runs better...
If its before, you will have a slightly different reading then afterwards due to the turbo suking up some of the heat and dissapateing it into the oil and whatever else it can do.
I think i would want to know my pre turbo EGT not my Post, But . why not install both. =)
Your pre turbo EGT reading will be more accurate of course, but you will also know how hot your turbo is getting so you dont melt it. =)
