glow plug questions

Buddy of mine just replaced the cab on his 84 F250 witha 6.9, put a ATS turbo on it also. The cab still needs some body work done to it, so the metal fenders are off of it. But the plastic fenders with all the solenoids and what not are sitting on the tires.. so anyways tried to start the truck but it won't turn the glow plug light on at all with the key. Does everything on the truck have to be grounded... far as the all of the fenders bolted up ? if you jump the glow plug solenoid with a screwdriver the light comes on in the cab... so... is it a ground issue ???

Also with the new ATS turbo im sure the pump needs turned up a touch.. about how many turns on the screw ? Thanks for any help

Jimmy

Do believe the fender relay MUST be grounded so the power from the key will activate the relay and starter etc.

There are several things mounted on the plastic inner fender that get their ground from the metal fender on both sides of the truck.

Starter solenoid is mounted on the metal inside of the actual fender.
The glow plug relay is mounted on the plastic inner fender, and it has a ground wire that goes to the mounting screw for the starter solenoid.
The voltage regulator is also mounted on the plastic inner fender, and it also has a ground wire that attaches at the mounting screw for the starter solenoid.

The fuel screw is an allen screw.
1.5 to 2 flats on the allen wrench is about all you want, a little goes a long way.
I also recommend installing a pyrometer to monitor exhaust temps before you turn it any at all.
The pistons start to melt at 1250 degrees, which can be easy to reach.

very cool.. thank you Dave for the speedy response and info on the pump. Pyrometer has definetely been installed as with boost gauge. I have read many of your informative posts and appreciate your input.
Thanks
