What should I set my timing at with a efi and a offroad 6 msd blaster ss coil my mechanic said it was 17 he set it at 8 degree but some people said 10 or 12 what is best for pulling and good gas mileage.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Dec-02 AT 12:35 PM (EST)]I wouldn't think it would affect your timing unless it has an adjustment for the signal picked up from the engine. Did you get the unit with a manual?
I thought the timing was an independent function of the engine control computer and simply told the ignition module when to send the fire signal in FI engines, the only way to change the timing was a computer reprogram or a chip.
The truck should still have a sticker under the hood, if only for vacuum routing and emissions calibration codes.
Not a guru of EFI, but I'm learning. Hope it points you in the right direction.
The computer takes care of all the advance curves, but not the base timing. The base timing can still be set, just unplug the SPOUT connector and use a timing light like always. Hope this helps.
I set mine as far advanced as I can without it pinging. I'm not sure what that's gotten up to, but it can't be more than a couple degrees more than stock.
