i just bought a 2005 F250, and the engine is knocking at idle. The dealership said that it was the injectors, but its LOUD! I was told by someone else it was probaly the cam sensor? How much does it cost to replace these?can i do it?
If you bought it at the dealership you mentioned, make them fix it! Mine is a little noisy at startup, but once past the initial startup, it's quiet as can be. Shouldn't be making any kind of noise like what you're describing.
If it was built before May of 2005, it is your cam phaser gears (they actually tick continuously when at idle and when driving). Same thing on my truck when I bought it and the dealer replaced both of them. Now it is as quiet as can be!!
I don't think it's a project you want to take on yourself, but if you just bought the truck from a dealer I'd take it back and make them do the TSB on it for the cam phaser gears - it is a known problem on 3V 5.4L's built before May of 2005.
the dealer told me it was just a usuall noise, not to worry about it, but it sounds like a diesel! they are not a ford dealer is the main problem, so i dont know what to do. it sounds ok when its cold, but after it warms up it starts the 'rattlin' again
