Another Thank You thread...

Driving down the road today and it died. No warning, cough, hiccup ANYTHING! Coasted a good long way. Got it off the highway into the grass tried to start it and no tach movement. Well thanks to this site, and you fine people, I was prepared. Had that CPS changed out in about 20 mins and stopped at Ford to buy two more. They're cheap now.

I never would have carried one if I didn't read about it here. Thanks Y'all!! I said it before...The best twenty bucks a year I spend!

......me too. I haven't had to replace it yet, and I have none on-board. What's it take to change it again? 10mm socket, & an extension??

I used a deep well socket and a 1 inch extension. Screwdriver to get it out. A flashlight would be handy as well.

As soon as it died, I kinda knew what had happened. Just be prepared, you LOOSE power steering and power brakes. It takes a little getting used to.

Luckily, I was on straight stretch of road with little traffic.

Dude, I have 2. One for me and one for some unfortunate soul on the road.

I carry 3 since I am the only one in the State of Mn on the roadside help network. Not that anyone drives thru this State anyway but I would rather be prepared to help if I need too.

Thats right, I had two CPS in my glove box but no wrench. Like you said, will not do any good to carry 50 of them if you can't change them.

I notice you have have a 6-spd. Did you push in the clutch when it happened? When I lost mine, I didn't touch the clutch and still had brakes and steering because the motor was technically still turning. Well until I stopped of course.

No I shifted to neutral as soon as it happened. I had my girls with me and I wanted to get to a grassy area ahead to get as far off the road as possible. Lucky for me we had went camping last weekend and our door rug was still in the back of my truck. I had something to lay on!

I drove about 300 miles today and I can swear the truck ran better than it has in a while.

For those that have to make some sharper turns after the truck dies, don't forget to check the cap on the power steering reservoir. Without the motor running you can pop the cap off.
