2001 F 350 PS Problem

Have a 2001 F350 7.3 with 230000. Power steering will not work with truck sitting still. When you start to move it will then work. PS pump started to make a noise so I changed pumps (2). Bled the system, refilled with synthetic fluid, bled the system again and now it will do nothing. No PS and no brakes. Reinstalled the old PS pump that worked, sometimes, and it is the same. Any suggestions ?

Did you use ATF to re-fill the system? I know that I made that mistake and topped mine off with p/s fluid, and it was doing the same thing. I just got mine flushed out and it made a huge difference.

Scott, mine had p/s fluid in it originally and I replaced it with Amsoil ATF fluid.

PS fluid probably killed your other one, try ATF in the new one?

Ed,

How are your ball joints? I also noticed some improvement after mine were replaced. If they are tight, it may just be more than the p/s system can handle. Just a thought.

What type of ATF are you using? Is it the regular Dexron III?

Scott, I don't think it is the ball joints, Superman would have a hard time steering, as it now is.

No, it will not turn, but did get it to turn jacked up today however when you put the brakes on, the p/s will not work.
