This one doesn't sound bad either, but I still don;t see anything about a relay for the glow plugs...any suggestions?
That unit there is a DEI unit, but valet is one of their lower lines. I would say that is a good unit and worth the money, but that price isnt that good of a deal
my favorite is Crimestopper brand.... but there are several good brands out there. just remember though, ANY unit is ONLY as good as ths install !!! there are a lot of features available now adays.... but if it starts it, then it will stop it as well by pushing the same button... or if it is already running, then you can push the start button, and it will allow it to keep running while you remove the keys for things like checking the po box, etc. if your keys have the transponder chip inside them (i assume that you do), then you will also need a transponder bypass unit. there are also different varieties of them available. the one i have is programmable much like a spare key is, and does not require an extra key to be hidden inside the dashboard. and another cool feature that has to be purchased seperately..... if your vehicle has the security perimeter lighting feature (head lights turn on when you unlock the truck), then you can get an extra module so that the aftermarket starter unit allows the same features. however, you will have to sacrifice a factory remote... this unit needs to be soldered to the factory remote, and then every signal produced by the aftermarket system rns through the factory remote, so all the factory features are maintained.... its a little more work to install, but well worth in IMO. you can also get modules to roll up your windows..... i live in a very rainy area, so thats also very handy for me. they are pretty easy to install.... most will come with a chart to tell you the color code and location for all the wires you need to tap into. if you choose to get what they call a friendly "T-harness" for the main heavy gauge wires, it will save a bunch of installation time, since it just plugs directly into the stock harness plugs and is already spliced with pig tails for you to use. sorry this is so long, but i hope it sheds a little light for you. if you have any qestions, definately ask....... and good luck !!!
My favorite is also Crimestopper , I started installing remote starts in 1977 on carbureted cars with the kicker solinoids on the carb,we normally install 250-300 every year , but all the others are good , a good installer is the key ! , Craig.
99% of remote starts will have an input for the wait to start light. You wire that input into the wait to start light and it wont let the truck start untill that wire looses power
Thats fine if you want to sit there for hours trying to find the right wire. The glow plugs can be on for a max of 2 mins. Why try to find a wire that you dont need.Just set it up with the delay start and your done!!!
The light is only a timer anyway,if doesnt control the plugs.
This is my 2nd crimestopper and i think there great. There are penlty of other good brands.

I do everything the exact way it was intended. To me its no trouble to find the wire. In my OPINION it is lazy to just do a timer.
On the 6.0L powerstroke trucks the dash cluster is a seperate computer that is fed information over a serial cable, so there is no wait to start wire. You have to use a timer on it.
