My Dad would like to install a trailer brake control in his 1996 F150 PU. The truck came new with the tow pacakge and does have the seven pin trailer plug in the rear. Can we get an adapter for the brake controller so we do not have to splice wires?
yea dont splice the wires i got a 95 and none of the wires go with the manual i think the assembler of mine was color blind cause i have 3 black wires which my manual says i should have one and it should be my ground but i have 3 dont know why dont care either i bought the adapter for it instead, i found adapaters all over i seen them at radio shack and i seen them at the auto stores but i bought mine from circut city cause i need a special one for my trailer
There IS a factory (female, I think) plug just under the ashtray near the firewall that will accept a plug in harness for your brake controller.
If you were to buy lets say the Tekonsha Prodigy controller you can buy a direct plug in harness that will go into your truck's plug and then plug into the controller-no splicing.
If you were to buy the Tekonsha Voyager (the best bang for the buck to me) you would have to put together 4 wires with butt connectors which is no big deal.
ok got a question i need the plug for the back of the truck but i want one like whats on the newer rangers that have the 4 and seven plug connects were can i get one cheap.
