Does anyone have an electric pump in line with a mechanical pump? My truck is hard to start after setting for two weeks. After the mech pump gets the gas pumped up to the carb it starts right up. I was thinking maybe a small electric pump in line would fill the carb before I started turning it over.
It's not really reconmended to use an electric pump through a mechanical one as it may rupture the diaphram pumping fuel into the crankcase. Might as well just use the electric full time. I don't think the mechanical would pull fuel through the electric one vary well.
Sounds like you have a fuel issue. I would say your carb is leaking internally rather than the fuel line draining.
Years ago I ran an electric pump inline with a mechanical one but never ran them at the same time on a regular basis (until the mechanical pump failed). The electric was a backup that I controlled with a toggle switch. It saved me at least once when I had a mechanical pump failure. I was also having a similar problem with the gas draining back. When it sat for long periods the electric pump was a big help getting it started faster. I continued to run the electric through the mechanical pump for a couple of years until the mechanical one finally developed a leak...
The overall problem is probably a Holley 94 with a power valve that leaks the fuel out of the bowl. Drain back from the pump is pretty hard to avoid with the pump up high on the engine. (as I recall, Don has a flat V8?)
(edit: you have a TPI engine??)
The p.v.'s sold in rebuild kits now are not the correct shape for the old carbs (but they do "fit"). I've heard someone is repro'ing the correct shape p.v.'s, will post when I find them. The difference is in the shape of the seating surface.
The problem is on my '49. It has a Edelbrock 1406 carb on it that is brand new. Several guys on the HAMB say they have the same problem with this carb. I really like the carb except for this problem. When it only sets for a day or two it starts right up.

I run the same carb and an electric pump (Carter CRT-4594). Never a problem.
